36 Years of Love and Care: Celebrating Mama Linda’s Birthday with a Memorable Bagamoyo Trip

A very special day filled with joy, love, laughter and unforgettable memories.
This year, the children and family of MEHAYO had a beautiful opportunity to celebrate the birthday of our founder, Mama Linda with a memorable trip to Bagamoyo.
The journey began with a visit from MEHAYO Morogoro to Kaole Zoo Bagamoyo, where the children experienced something many of them had never seen before. Excitement filled the air as they explored and saw different animals including snakes, zebras, monkeys, tortoises, ostriches, and many more. For many of the children, this was their very first time seeing such animals in real life.
After the zoo visit, the group headed to the beach where another beautiful moment awaited. Mama Linda cut her birthday cake surrounded by children, staff and friends of MEHAYO. In a touching and emotional moment, she shared the cake with some of the very first children who became part of MEHAYO many years ago, including Onyango, Charles, Sadala, Paul and Enock.
These are not just children, they are the pioneer family of MEHAYO. From 1990 to 2026, Mama Linda has dedicated 36 years of love, care and service to children with disabilities and vulnerable children. Seeing those first children celebrating her birthday beside her was a powerful reminder of how far the journey has come. Truly, 36 years of impact is something beautiful and inspiring.
The day continued with laughter and fun at the ocean. Older children enjoyed swimming while the younger ones happily played with the ocean water along the shore. Smiles could be seen everywhere, and the happiness of the children spoke louder than words.
When asked about the trip, the children shared their excitement with pure joy:
Enock said:
“Nimefurahi sana kutoka nje ya Morogoro, nimeona wanyama kama nyoka, pundamilia…”
Eve said:
“Nimefurahi kukutana na marafiki wapya kutoka Bagamoyo.”
Goodluck said:
“Nimejifunza kuogelea, nipeleke tena tukaogelee.”
The bus was filled with laughter and playful noise as children joked with one another, saying others should not be allowed on the next trip because of how much fun they had.
Honestly, this trip reminded us how important such experiences are for children. Beyond enjoyment, they learn, discover new places, build confidence, create friendships and get the opportunity to experience the beauty of Tanzania with their own eyes.
At MEHAYO, we believe children deserve moments like these at least once every year. Educational and recreational trips help them grow socially, emotionally and mentally while creating memories they will carry forever.
